| Valencia was a republican city in the Franco era; and in that time if there was any public money , Valencia would have been near the bottom of the list of deserving causes. So for many years Valencia was somewhat neglected. This all changed post Franco, and there has been no shortage of funds in recent years.
The city centre has been cleaned up. The transport systems in Valencia are excellent - the metros and trams are nice and cool in the summer. The river that used to flow through the middle of the city has been turned into a beautiful park. Towards the south end, you can see some of the finest modern architecture in Europe designed by Santiago Calatrava. The new Opera house is bigger than Sydneys.
