Friday Lunch Club

This is the home page of the Friday Lunch Club of Valencia (formerly First Friday Lunch Club).

This the the guys answer to the women's IWC coffee mornings; and it is an opportunity for ex-pats to talk to each other mainly in English. There will be lots of networking; Club members may choose to work with each other. But anyone caught hard selling will get the Yellow Card.

The FLC meets on a FRIDAY now and again for 'comida', meeting at 2.00 pm for 2.20 pm start. The organisers are Peter Heskett and Bert Gayol.

Friday January 27th next meeting - We will stick with the BRAUTIGAN at Avda Blasco Ibañez 110 on the corner of calle Yecla and Manuel Candela, now we know where it is. See below for directions. The owner, Luis, is an old friend of Bert Gayol's; and they do a very good Menu del Dia for 8 euros.

The first meeting was enjoyed by George, Bert, Peter (Torrent), John, Chris (Monserrat), Parmi (La Canyada), Steve (Patraix) and Chris (Puerto). Only Steve and Peter remembered to bring a book! Next time maybe we'll do better. Thanks to Parmi for pushing me to update this page.

Video / Book swap - to give the event a touch of Culture, members are invited to bring a CD, book or video that they enjoyed and don't mind lending out. We have done this in Torrent and it's fun to try another author or whatever. (But make sure your stuff is clearly marked with your name, so there is a chance of getting it back.)

Booking In - The numbers for each meeting are limited and have to be known in advance by the restaurant. So please let us know if you would like to come; and if you have been booked in and then find you cannot make it, please email to cancel - or call the restaurant - 96 339 0642

To book in or out please email peter@valenciashortstay.com

Bert Gayol & Luis, patron of the Brautigan

See below for instructions as to how to get there. To keep it simple, we will stick with the Brautigan for the first few meetings. It's a proper restaurant and is worth a visit in the evenings if you like proper burgers, ribs etc done the American way.

The Brautigan is an 5 minute walk from the Amistad metro

By CAR - apparently these directions are too complicated . So head for Mestalla, the football ground , and look for Blasco ibanez the big road running East - West. or if you are feeling adventurous you could try Bert's quick way in ...

  • If coming from the interior, we suggest taking the ring road by the new river towards the Puerto.
  • Get in the right lane before the Pista de Silla (the road to Alicante). Pass under the road to Alicante & then turn right after the zig zag towards Ausias March.
  • Cross the new river. At the round about with the fish hooks, turn right.
  • Left immediately at the next round about.
  • Straight until 2nd lights - first major intersection - then
  • Right into Avda Hermanos Maristas.
  • Straight on cross the old river into Calle Tomas Montañana.
  • Left at lights into Avda Del Puerto.
  • Right at lights into Cardinal Benlloch.
  • Turn right into Blasco Ibañez and look for somewhere to park.

The Hash House Harriers are coming to Valencia - The HHH Run (or walk) for Fun. The first event in Valencia was due to take place in El Vedat de Torrent but has been postponed. We will put the next date when we have it. Contact George on 654 562 963 for more info.

ps The Hash House Harriers were started in Malaysia over 50 years ago by three brits, and got its name from the eating house where they usually ended up after an outing.
