First Friday Lunch Club

This was the home page of the First Friday Lunch Club of Valencia. see Friday Lunch Club for the latest info.

This the the guys answer to the women's IWC coffee mornings; and it is an opportunity for ex-pats to talk to each other mainly in English. There will be lots of networking; Club members may choose to work with each other. But anyone caught hard selling will get the Yellow Card.

The FFLC meets on the FIRST FRIDAY of each month for 'comida', meeting at 2.00 pm for 2.20 pm start. The organisers are Peter Heskett and Bert Gayol.

Friday December 2nd - The restaurant chosen for the inaugural lunch is the BRAUTIGAN at Avda Blasco Ibañez 110 on the corner of calle Yecla. The owner, Luis, is an old friend of Bert Gayol's; and they do a very good Menu del Dia for 8 euros.

Video / Book swap - to give the event a touch of Culture, members are invited to bring a CD, book or video that they enjoyed and don't mind lending out. We have done this in Torrent and it's fun to try another author or whatever. (But make sure your stuff is clearly marked with your name, so there is a chance of getting it back.)

Booking In - The numbers for each meeting are limited and have to be known in advance by the restaurant. So please let us know if you would like to come; and if you have been booked in and then find you cannot make it, please email to cancel - or call the restaurant - 96 339 0642

To book in or out please email peter@valenciashortstay.com

Bert Gayol & Luis of the Brautigan

See below for instructions as to how to get there. To keep it simple, we will stick with the Brautigan for the first few meetings. It's a proper restaurant and is worth a visit in the evenings if you like proper burgers, ribs etc done the American way.

The Brautigan is an 5 minute walk from the Amistad metro

By CAR

  • If coming from the interior, we suggest taking the ring road by the new river towards the Puerto.
  • Keep in the right side after the turnings to Torrent. Pass under the road to Alicante & turn right after the zig zag towards Ausias March.
  • Cross the new river. At the round about with the fish hooks, turn right.
  • Left immediately at the next round about.
  • Straight until 2nd lights - first major intersection - then
  • Right into Avda Hermanos Maristas.
  • Straight on cross the old river into Calle Tomas Montañana.
  • Left at lights into Avda Del Puerto.
  • Right at lights into Cardinal Benlloch.
  • Turn right into Blasco Ibañez and look for somewhere to park.

CLASSIFIEDS

Central Point Academia is opening in Torrent in January. We are looking for English Teachers. The younger kids with need someone with TEFL or a teaching certificate.

We will be using the CALLAN method for teenagers and adults. We plan to run some Callan training sessions between December 12th and 17th, which will give you the skills you need. So no need for TEFL. The CALLAN method is built around question and answers. It is mostly oral and very popular with the students. If you can spare two evenings a week, thne this could be for you.

If you know any brits or very good english speakers, who might be interested, please get them to call Peter on 96 156 1730 or email peter@valenciashortstay.com
